Weekend Recap: Louisville City FC
On Saturday, Saint Louis FC faced off against our fiercest rivals from last season in the first leg on this year’s Kings’ Cup. To face, Louisville we started with Pais in goal and the typical back four of Dixon, Fink, Cochrane, and Maher. In front of them were Musa and Bushue who replaced the suspended Chad Bond. Ambersley play wide right with Barklage wide to the left and Conner in the middle. Up top Herrera got the start once again.
Louisville dominated a large portion of the first half as we looked unsteady defending the infield end at Slugger. Even despite all their huffing and puffing they could not find the back of the net in the first half.
As teams switched sides in the second half, Saint Louis looked much more solid, but, like Louisville, we were not able to capitalize. Finally, Louisville were able to connect just after Tyler David came in for Bushue in the 76th minute. The play included a beautiful series of passes that led to George Davis chipping the ball over Pais.
Late substitutions to bring in Hardware, Cicciarelli, and Renken weren’t enough to even the score, and a series of mistakes by Saint Louis led to a penalty kick being awarded to Louisville, as well as a yellow card for Mark Pais.
With the penalty converted in the 90th minute the game was done and dusted. A lackluster performance for Saint Louis left us to fall behind in the Kings’ Cup--meaning the only way to bring it home is to win by at least 3 goals when they visit here in the last home game of the season on September 18th. -TR
